Why we were in Odessa, Texas
The Texas Trucking Association represents carriers across the state, and its Spring Seminar draws member companies for safety training, networking, and vendor conversations over the course of the event. TechBit Solutions was invited to speak at the 2026 seminar. The original plan was a presentation on AI adoption for trucking companies. That session was cancelled and replaced with a conversation about cybersecurity and IT support instead, once it became clear how many carriers in the audience had a more basic problem to deal with first.
By the time the TechBit team arrived on site, the focus had shifted from a single presentation to running dark web scans for anyone in the room who wanted one, alongside the event's regular safety training sessions.
What nine out of ten carriers didn't know
Across the room, nine out of ten trucking companies TechBit scanned already had exposures sitting on the dark web: usernames, passwords, and other credentials tied to company email addresses and systems. The main event was a Texas Trucking Association chapter meeting at the Odessa Country Club, where Rudy Vazquez, of TechBit Solutions, spoke to members about what the scans had turned up. Several companies in the room had already been breached. Not one of them had received an alert or warning about it. Every one of them was grateful TechBit found it when it did.
Talking with industry partners
TechBit also spent time with other companies working the same event, including Jay Wommack, chairman and CEO of Infinit-i Fleet Safety Training. Wommack's company has spent 27 years training trucking companies on safety, and he talked about treating safety as a return rather than an expense: fuel-efficiency gains from safer driving, and lower accident rates tied to how well a new driver is onboarded rather than to how many years they have been driving.
One statistic Wommack pointed to crosses industries far outside trucking: it is a company's newest employees, regardless of how much prior experience they bring with them, who cause the most accidents in their first months on the job, because a new environment throws off judgment that experience elsewhere does not fully transfer. Getting the onboarding right, he argued, matters more than how many years are on a resume.
